My Pet Is Eating Grass, Are They Nauseous?

We’ve all seen our beloved pets dash outside and instantly start munching down on as much grass as they can. This however is usually nothing to worry about, many cats or dogs who eat grass to help ease a few things such as easing nausea, gas or bloating due to a gastrointestinal being upset, eating grass helps dogs and cats with their regular bowel movements. This is important with cats specifically who need to clear their digestive tracts clogged by fur. Most Vets agree that eating grass can help soothe a dog’s upset stomach. CBD for Your Nauseous Cats and Dogs

CBD for Your Nauseous Dogs

It’s easy for most humans to communicate when they are feeling unwell or sick, but for our cats and dogs it can be difficult to recognize when they are having digestive issues. It many take a while for you to notice that something is wrong with your cat or dog, but once you do it’s important to act quickly to help your pet start to feel relief. Let’s have a look on how CBD oil can help for cats throwing up with and how CBD oil is beneficial for dogs with nausea.  CBD for dog nausea is more common than CBD oil for cats vomiting, but it is certainly a beneficial treatment for both of your furry friends.

CBD is a relatively new preventative remedy that has taken the pet world by storm. CBD has started to show signs that it can help with a various degree of pet ailments from anxiety to nausea, it has become one of the best natural remedies to avoid medications and their many side effects. But how does CBD work to relieve all these ailments?

CBD has shown a lot of signs and progress in helping with humans and studies have shown that CBD can have the same effects on pets as it does humans. This is largely due to the fact that both humans and pets have what’s known as endocannabinoid system in their bodies.

The endocannabinoid system is a very important part of the digestive process, it helps regulate both the signaling and transmission of digestive and biochemical substances in the body. The endocannabinoid system functions when it stimulates different receptors that directly influence gastric secretion, digestion and bowel movements. We know these receptors as the CB1 and CB2 receptors, which CBD attaches itself to and helps enhance the endocannabinoid system for the better. When your pet experiences nausea type symptoms its endocannabinoid system requires extra support in order for their body to deal with various symptoms associated with nausea. CBD is continually showing to be a great source for supporting the endocannabinoid system. When CBD is consumed it releases biochemicals that boost the functions of the endocannabinoid system, it stimulates the CB1 receptors to balance out homeostasis, which balances out the body’s physiological processes.  Both CB1 and CB2 are also found in the gastrointestinal tract which is associated in nausea and vomiting. CBD helps with stabilizing the digestive process but also other processes.

CBD also has an effect on a specific receptor called 5-hydroxytryptamine-1A (5-HT1A) which is a receptor for serotonin. Studies have found that when CBD is consumed it interacts with the 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor which reduces the sensation of nausea. Studies also found that these receptors are widespread in the brain and gastrointestinal tract and is a leading factor in the cause of nausea and vomiting. When taking CBD it activates these areas and reduced the feeling sickness and constant retching.

Though more studies need to be conducted for pets and how CBD can help with their nausea, other stuides and examples show a clear corrilation to how CBD can help any mammal for an endocannabinoid system. CBD has been widely accepted as a treatment for nausea in humans for those suffering through chemotherapy and AIDS patients. With all mammals having the same endocannabinoid system it shows that if CBD works on other mammals that it should work on both dogs and cats. The biggest mediating factor is obviously dosage and size for the specific cat or dog you are giving it to. When starting off it’s always important to start off low and slow, for every kilogram your pet weights it’s recommended you provide 0.1-0.5 mg of CBD. It’s important to remember that it takes time to see long-term benefits for your cat when they start using CBD, every cat is different, some might feel better in a matter of hours and some might take longer.
